For a friend . . .

This one’s free:

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me.

  1. C.M.Hardin says:

    If not for sorrow, I would still be an atheist, and I wouldn’t have all my wonderful kids.
    “In light of heaven, the worst suffering on earth, a life full of the most atrocious tortures on earth, will be seen to be no more serious than one night in an inconvenient hotel.” Mother Teresa. 🙂

        I don’t think she was making a direct comparison, just saying that we have to keep suffering in perspective. That said, even saints can slip a little, and I know it’s documented she had trouble with her faith toward the end in terms of doubt. So, take the quote for what it’s worth. Other than that, after some time and trouble understanding the concept, I’m a believer in “offering it up”. 🙂
